SMG Scuba Club Level 1 Dive trips
LEVEL 1 - Wraysbury Lake
Wraysbury lake in west London (near Heathrow) provides a valuable training site for new divers completing Open Water certifications and numerous other PADI courses. It is also the ideal location to gain experience of colder water diving before progressing to UK sea dives. An opportunity to practice skills such as buoyancy control and gain familiarity with new equipment in a consistent environment. Instructors are always on hand to provide guidance and advice for Club divers with less experience.
Wraysbury Diving lake. like most of he numerous lakes in the area were man made. Created through gravel excavation in the 50’s and 60’s for material to build the motorways. With an average depth of 6 – 7 meters, specially constructed training platforms facilitate the PADI courses taught at the lake and many attractions have been inserted in the lake over the years for divers to explore. There are many wrecks of various sized boats, a London Taxi, School bus, VW camper van and loads more!
A variety of aquatic life within the lake includes enormous Carp (both mirror and common) Pike, perch Tench and the Signal Crayfish. The North American species of Crayfish, introduced to the UK in the 70’s has decimated the indigenous population of White Clawed Crayfish and is actively encouraged to be removed from the lake by divers. For the keen hunter/gatherers at London Scuba, regular Crayfish dives are organized to extract these tasty critters from the lake!
Out of the water, Wraysbury has a large car park, changing rooms, toilets, and a heated clubhouse with licensed bar. Food and drink is available both inside the clubhouse and via a serving hatch outside. Resident chef Arthur never disappoints with his ability to do wonders with 4 main ingredients; Sausage, bacon, burger and Egg!
